Abstract

This paper shows the contribution of Microfinance Institutions (MCIs) in the dynamism and integration of local economies into the national framework of economic growth. Based on a study carried out in July 2024 in three municipalities in the Jacmel metropolitan area, it should be noted that local BMIs are the financing lever for local entrepreneurial initiatives at more than 93%. The factors behind the very high systematic use of microfinance by local CMIs compared to that of banks can be explained by the proximity and community anchoring of the relationships between the various local operators, in particular those between local CMIs and borrowers. These results reinforce the paradigm of local development, highlighting the approaches of the local economy and social capital (particularly bonding and linking) at the heart of the construction of local territories in compliance with the rules of national macroeconomic growth.
