Abstract

Many view renewable energy as the key to a more secure future. For some time now, the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) has also become essential to achieving high performance across virtually all key human activities—whether essential or otherwise. In this context, renewable energy and associated alternatives (ERA) alongside ICT emerge as pillars capable of improving the natural and socio-economic environments of populations. Numerous studies have employed methods such as time-series analysis to examine the immediate and indirect effects and impacts of the relationship between energy and ICT. The results for countries that have experienced this dynamic have been mixed or negative. Consequently, current exploration of ERA and ICT strategies appears insufficient; further research and experimentation are needed to fully harness their potential to positively influence people's quality of life. This provides the rationale for the analysis presented in this article.
